Adam called the meeting to order at 6pm. Benny, John, Julia, Roy, Will, Susan, Frank, Ben and Jim attended.

Adam will be heading the "Shades of Green" mountain bike ride at Bartram Forest Saturday morning in conjunction with Georgia College. Volunteers are needed to help lead participants on casual rides around the trails. With many club members attending another event this weekend, anyone available should give Adam and Liz a hand.

Adam discussed progress on the development of the "Cycling Over Fifty" classes and the possibility of presenting them through Continuing Education at GCSU. A potential problem is the qualification requirements for instructors with that program. An alternative approach of presenting the sessions independently was suggested. Adam will discuss further with Fred.

Adam and Jim recently met with Milledgeville City Planner, Mike Couch, about working to make Milledgeville a Bike League certified Bicycle Friendly Community. Mr. Couch was generally supportive, but much will need to be done to convince the City to move forward on this. A priority will be to have a Bicycle Coordinator (or a more general Transportation Coordinator) assigned to represent the City in this effort.

Jim presented an overview of the Fishing Creek Trail project which will eventually connect the Oconee River Greenway with Georgia College and the public schools via hard pack and later paved shared use trails. Funding has been secured for part of this and is being pursued for the rest by Live Healthy Baldwin.

The Georgia Bike Summit will be held in Athens on October 8th where bicycling advocates from all across the state will meet to learn about the current state of cycling advocacy and ways to make further progress. Adam, Benny, Susan, Frank and Jim will attend. We discussed strategies to best cover the wide variety of sessions that will be going on simultaneously. It is great that we will have such strong representation at this event.

Many club members will be riding in the Kaolin Festival Century rides this Saturday. Several will be doing their first organized ride and/or riding their longest rides to date. We discussed ways to ride group events safely and ways to conserve energy and adequately hydrate and fuel ourselves on long rides. Good luck to everyone riding!
