Not trying to speak for Benny, but I think he was referring to the fact that the tri route is largely on 441 and N. Jefferson St. These are two of the worst roads around here to bike. The route makes sense given the location of the event (there aren't really any other options up that way...), but I have my concerns about it as well.

Yes, that was my concern. That and the fact that such an event was planned without seeking input from local cyclists.

I did exchange emails with the race director since posting this. He said that they will have a lane coned off on 441 and will have a strong police presence to keep traffic at bay. Also, this event will take place early on a Sunday morning when traffic is minimal. I agree that these factors do reduce the risk somewhat, but I would still be very careful around all the shopping areas on 441 and with the many side streets on Jefferson.

course has been changed to loop around the airport & back to CC. Yes the original course reeked of someone not familiar with local road conditions. The new course is the only knowledgeable obvious choice from the start.
