Message from the ride director:

Hello,

Can you send this information out to your members? The date of the 2008 Beautiful Backroads Century is Sept 20 in Cartersville, GA. If you haven't been on this ride yet, it a good one. Beautiful traffic free routes of 12, 27,45,65 and 105 miles. The rest stops are great and our after ride celebration is among the best. A meal with two to three entrees and 3 sides, free beer and other drinks, a DJ, and a free massage. Please come enjoy the ride this year and help spread the word for us

Really far. A bit above the Kennessaw area, I think. Thats one of the reasons I probably wont be doing this ride.

It is about 45 miles north of Atlanta. Not that far. Kathy and I rode the 27 mile ride a couple of months ago and we loved it. This was my first true road bike ride. We stayed at Red Top Mountain in one of the cottages and had a blast. We have already registered and looking forward to the ride.

I should clarify;

too far for my $85 per tank SUV, and college student budget. :P.

I am really contemplating it.

I am either doing this one, or the Nut Roll in Albany, though leaning more towards the Nut Roll...

I apologize. I drive to Atlanta each and every day and I try to forget just how far it really is. If I ever thought about it, I would hate the drive.

Yes, We are going up Thursday afternoon and for a muddy spokes ride in Fort Mountain and then spend the rest of our time getting ready for Saturday.

We left on Thursday in order to ride mountain bikes in Fort Mountain State Park --that turned out to be a nice 3 mile walk. The trail was single track 3 miles straight down the mountain, then 3 miles straight up the other side of the mountain. Seriously, it was a vertical rock garden. I want to meet the person that can actually ride that trail without leaving the saddle. Supposedly, it is a favorite of SORBA!

We really enjoyed the Cartersville ride, they changed the route from the last time we rode several months ago. The route had a lot more hills to climb, but the ride was awesome. Beautiful Backroads Century is a perfect name. The rolling hills and endless turns made the ride fun. The huge homes and picturesque landscapes made it beautiful. We rode the 48 mile loop--longest ride we've done yet--it was great. The rest stops were wonderful with great people and lots of snacks. We will definately do the ride again next year, hopefully the 100 mile loop.

We stayed at Red Top Mountain State Park, only 10 miles from the Busch Plant. We hope more people from the club will join us next year.

Sounds like a great ride. I've ridden through that area on BRAG a couple of times and it is a beautiful place to ride. I hope to join you on the century route next year.

I remember reading reports about the GSC MTB race at Fort Mountain. Sounds like you rode in the same area where they raced. I think they left a lot of blood on some of those rocks!
