Team Oconee Outfitters had a good outing at the opening of the 2010 season in Thomaston Georgia. 1600+ feet of climbing per 9 mile lap which gave everybody a shot at seeing how they would do on a "real" mountain bike course.
Yep there are mountains in middle Georgia:

The race started on double track with plenty of sand, rocks, and creeks to keep things interesting along the bank of the Flint River. After a mile of this an immediate left turn up the mountain on switchback single track took you up about 700' vert.

How about a rock garden? These puppies were flying through the air as racers hit them hard on the flat start:

Jason got second in Cat 1 40+ (the first place finisher is a pro who moved down for the race)

Angie got first in Cat 1 30+ Dunno where the 3rd place finisher was for the podium

Bud got 2nd in Cat 3 50+ Interestingly the top 5 were all over 60

PS Maybe better posted in "ride report?" dunno -- many options here.
