Jens Voigt took a hard fall from his bike while descending the final mountain on yesterday's stage 16. He was going about 50mph when something caused his bike to tumble to the ground sending him crashing to the pavement where he slid for several yards before stopping in the road.
He was conscious when they took him to the hospital. Reports are that he a broken right cheek bone and a concussion but he is doing well.

Best wishes to one tough sonofagun and a heck of a nice guy. Get well soon and get back on that bike and crush some more souls. :)

That was a nasty fall, I'm still trying to figure out what he hit. Looks like there was a ripple in the asphalt or something. Glad he is doing well (as can be expected), that faceplant into the road at 50mph could have been deadly.

Ever seen that old footage of the bridge that starts vibrating in the wind and ultimately detonates? I wonder if his front wheel did something physically similar. Those carbon wheels are so light and flexible that I wonder if knocking one slightly off line could create such an event. I watched it in slo-mo on directv but simply did not see him hit anything.
